Editor-in-Chief and Junior Editor-in-Chief For years, the walls of the high school have been missing something. In that time, many students and staff members have commented on the lack of color, particularly in one of the wings most recently built, the D200’s. This year, social studies teachers Mr. Calvin Vanada and Mr. Sam Cooley decided to change that.

Staff Writers In Red Lion Area School District, there are 65 students enrolled who are homeless, and at least 6 teenage mothers. Programs such as The Children’s Home of York and the Haven Home for Girls support these students. “They support me physically, they give me a roof. The home is too sweet not to be safe,” Red Lion Area Senior High School junior Brianna* said. Brianna, 17, greatly appreciates all that the Haven Home has done for her. In order to create a better life for Brianna, the staff helped her get a job, provides computer access, and emotionally supports her. The Children’s Home of York is an organization that helps children and families in Pennsylvania who are in need. For more than 150 years, the home has provided many programs and services that help find children a home. By Rachel Lau
Senior Editor Despite recent incidents at local football games, Red Lion security and staff make sure their students and guests feel safe on Friday nights. Events that occurred at a Friday night football game brought into question whether or not schools have enough security for the games. Two people were injured during a shooting Sept. 9 at William Penn, causing the school to have their home football games every Saturday afternoon. By Ali Kochik Social Media Editor Helping others is something that teachers typically have a passion for, and new Family and Consumer Science teacher, Mrs. Ellen Bolton, is certainly no exception. Teaching is only one of the many ways Mrs. Bolton gives back and aids the community. Mrs. Bolton volunteers for the York Rescue Mission where she mentors women who are recovering alcoholics. She also helps with Sunday school at St. Paul’s Church, where she works closely with a young autistic boy. Although teaching at Red Lion may be new for Mrs. Bolton, she’s not a stranger to the teaching world. “I worked in numerous schools in York County,” she said, “in the past I always changed schools because of my husband’s job.” By Caroline Frey Staff Writer The community is coming together to support a Red Lion graduate, Brooks Argento, who is currently battling a brain tumor. Brooks, a 2016 graduate, was a former football player for the Lions, co-host of Hall Talk and an honor roll student. He was just starting his freshman year at Pennsylvania State University when something did not seem right with his vision. Shortly after, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Since then, he has been staying at Hershey Medical Center on the road to recovery. While he is there, the community has stepped up and is helping in every way possible. |
