Social Media Editor Debt during and after college is a hard reality crushing millions of students a year. Very few people can pay for school without some form of aid especially since financial aid does not usually cover all costs associated with college. Money from scholarships helps to fill that gap. Searching for and applying to scholarships is a tedious and time-consuming process. However, more and more scholarship search engines come out every year, such as Scholly and Raise Me. Both tools simplify and streamline the effort.

Senior Editor Despite recent incidents at local football games, Red Lion security and staff make sure their students and guests feel safe on Friday nights. Events that occurred at a Friday night football game brought into question whether or not schools have enough security for the games. Two people were injured during a shooting Sept. 9 at William Penn, causing the school to have their home football games every Saturday afternoon. By Ali Kochik Social Media Editor Following the graduation of seniors Ian Adler and Brooks Argento last year, some students were left wondering what would happen to the well-loved comedy segment, Hall Talk with Brooks and Ian. The 2016-2017 school year, however, has brought a new pair of students who have taken on the challenge of filling the void. Juniors Liam MacQuillan and Jared Pofi have adopted their own form of Hall Talk, a job they obtained somewhat by fate after a teacher recognized their comedic talent. “I had them in class last year and I just thought they were pretty popular guys and good students.” Mrs. Valerie Stone said. “I just thought they’d be able to pull it off and I think they’re doing a fabulous job.” Macquillan and Pofi took her recommendation and are continuing to run with it. By Ali Kochik Social Media Editor Helping others is something that teachers typically have a passion for, and new Family and Consumer Science teacher, Mrs. Ellen Bolton, is certainly no exception. Teaching is only one of the many ways Mrs. Bolton gives back and aids the community. Mrs. Bolton volunteers for the York Rescue Mission where she mentors women who are recovering alcoholics. She also helps with Sunday school at St. Paul’s Church, where she works closely with a young autistic boy. Although teaching at Red Lion may be new for Mrs. Bolton, she’s not a stranger to the teaching world. “I worked in numerous schools in York County,” she said, “in the past I always changed schools because of my husband’s job.” By Ali Kochik
Social Media Editor As a customary part of graduation, seniors at Red Lion Area Senior High School are required to take part in a mock job interview every fall. Students planning on graduating in the spring are expected to create an imitation cover letter and resume, preparing themselves for a pseudo interview. Similar to real life interviews, these mock interviews can bring about numerous bouts of stress and anxiety. Students go into the interviews with shaky legs, sweaty palms and racing minds, however they come out with big smiles and broader horizons. By Caroline Frey Staff Writer The community is coming together to support a Red Lion graduate, Brooks Argento, who is currently battling a brain tumor. Brooks, a 2016 graduate, was a former football player for the Lions, co-host of Hall Talk and an honor roll student. He was just starting his freshman year at Pennsylvania State University when something did not seem right with his vision. Shortly after, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Since then, he has been staying at Hershey Medical Center on the road to recovery. While he is there, the community has stepped up and is helping in every way possible. |
