By Shawn Gunarich Multimedia Editor Students gather outside the commons, adjacent from the the American flag. These students gather in an event rooted in their and faith, known as “See you at the Pole.” This gathering of “See you at the pole” or SYATP sprouted out of the small town of Burleson, Texas back in 1990, according to the See You At The Pole Website. The basis of the gathering is for students who practice Christianity to unify and pray for things from everyday life to a drought in West Africa. “We all have one thing in common,” Alia Dyke senior home school student said, “the Lord.” The fact that one ideal so strongly motivates high school students to wake up early is a true feat.
“Just taking the initiative to praise our savior,” senior Meredith Kunce said. “It is so worth it.” The mission of these students is to unify in prayer, to gather students from all corners of Red Lion High and to pray together. “It is a great way to reach out to students traveling in their spiritual journeys, even if they don’t know where they are at,” senior Mickayla Smith said. “Come, we welcome you and the Lord wants you here”. These students flex their amendment rights of religious freedom and assembly. While the school cannot officially promote nor discourage religious practices, any student may practice their religion and are free from any ramification. Red Lion students gather every Wednesday rain or shine to pray and can be seen in a circle praying outside the commons.
