By Judge Kunce Staff Writer The Leonid sat down with seniors Bryce Knorr and Danny Parsley to talk about the art they are creating for the public. Bryce Knorr, single handedly composed a clothing line in which he sells apparel with his designs, locally and nationwide, he calls it ‘Cyprus.’ Danny Parsley, on the other hand, thought up rhymes and jotted down lines to create his very own mixtape referred to as ‘NSPG’. CyprusLEONID: How did your clothing line ‘Cyprus’ come about? BRYCE: Well, I saw different artists and their drawings and other art on Tumblr and Instagram and thought to myself that I could do better than them while also using them as inspiration. LEONID: What was your foundation and/or first moves toward your business? BRYCE: So I started to get in contact with people who I thought had a good general idea about business and similar aspirations as myself. LEONID: Why did you decide to use clothing and fashion design as an artistic implement for you? BRYCE: At a young age, I’ve always been involved with art. I remembered I had asked my grandmother to sew and stitch a design I had drawn earlier that evening into a shirt of mine. Seeing my little drawings and doodles from my sketchbook “come to life” and into a tangible thing, gave me the best feeling. LEONID: What designer from a small scale or high end business have you looked to the most to help with creativity? BRYCE: Bob Wolf, a freelance designer and personal friend has helped me with my creative processes. He has helped me with my designs and gave me suggestions. When I first started CYP, my designs were heavily influenced by Tyler, The Creator and his vibrant designs for his Golf Line. Once I got more involved in the fashion world, I looked at brands such as Palace, APC, Yves Saint Laurent, Bape, Rick Owens, Raf Simons, Virgil Abloh from Off__White, and obviously Supreme. Nigo with Bape and James Jebbia with Supreme are big role models to me and their brands are how I want to create mine. LEONID: Where do you see Cyprus and yourself, five years down the line? BRYCE: I see Cyprus having it’s own established store in the Dallas, Texas area. Hopefully expand through the country as a respected brand. I also see myself owning a white BMW E92 M3 in five years. NSPGLEONID: What inspired you to step out of your comfort zone and/or normalcy and lifestyle in order to create your ongrowing mixtape ‘NSPG’?
DANNY: My entire life I’ve tried to be different and to make others happy. But then I found music and it made me exceptionally happy. Not just listening to other artists, but trying to incorporate my own creativity into the art form. I have a lot of stories to tell, ‘NSPG’ is how I will do it. LEONID: For those unfamiliar as to who you are and what you’re doing, tell us what ‘NSPG’ means to you? DANNY: I am Danny Parsley, a kid trying to make it big in a huge and very competitive industry where status is everything. ‘NSPG’ or ‘Not So Pleasant Grove’, is like a diary that I am sharing with whoever listens. It includes detailed accounts of things that I have went through and just how I perceive myself in my own eyes. It starts with family issues that I once went through in the song “STAY” and concludes with the track titled “Me”, which covers who I am as a person. LEONID: What sparked a flame for your lyrics and what really helped with your creative process? DANNY: I noticed a flame was sparked, the very first time my pen had touched my journal. It felt so natural, like as if I was supposed to invest my life into this art. Everyday I spend about an hour just freestyling, trying to make the syllables increase and complicate my flow while also expanding my vocabulary just to have my own style of rap. That way I could stand out from the crowd, ultimately tying back to trying to be different in life. LEONID: What are your goals for ‘NSPG’, or your rap career. Where do you see yourself in the near or distant future possibly 5 years down the line? Possible album soon in the works? DANNY: I have one goal as of now, it’s getting my music out there, and i’d also love to make a career for myself out of this. At 17 years of age and getting quality studio time, recording music and getting some amounts of exposure at York College of Pennsylvania, I would say that I am on the right track. Not many people can do it in a professional setting at this age so it gives me hope that i’ll actually turn this into something. As for an album, I am already working on songs that could be placed into that category, that is definitely on the radar for me. So let’s just say “Not So Pleasant Grove” is the start, however not the finish of my career. I will continue to improve my craft until those who I listen to and admire now will be numbers in my phone and features in my songs. LEONID: If you could have any 2 artists from any genre and or generation to feature on one track with you, who would they be and why? DANNY: Well, that sounds like a simple question. I would pick Kendrick Lamar and also J.Cole. Now, I know those are 2 of the biggest names in the game, but they do exactly what I do. And that’s to tell stories about themselves and their lives. Good Kid, M.A.A.D City, was Kendrick’s story. Born Sinner, was J. Cole’s. So it would seem more natural to have storytellers come together to create a truly magnificent piece. We can expect NSPG to be released to select internet/multimedia platforms on 6/3/16.
