By Shayla Scallorn Social Media Editor After 11 years of hard work, Mini-THON has raised a grand total of $500,722.22. The money was raised in support of the Four Diamonds Fund and recent Red Lion graduate Brooks Argento. Life for the Argento family was turned upside down when Brooks was diagnosed with a brain tumor only a few short weeks after starting college. Today, roughly seven months later, Brooks is on the road to recovery. Through this fight, his loving friends and family have been there to support him every step of the way. A personal message from Brooks played during the second hour to thank everyone for their contribution and dedication. During family hour tears fell, voices cracked, and stories of relentless love and support were shared. Paige Argento, Trevor Vitz, and Katie Knepp explained how cancer has forever changed them. The families expressed their sincerest gratitude toward the Four Diamonds for easing the financial burden, and for truly being a life saver. For the dancers, this is where the reality of the cause they were fighting for set in.
“I will miss the unity that the night of Mini-THON brings,” senior chair Kyle Palmieri said. “For one night the whole school comes together to have a great time and fight for a great cause.” The 12 hours of Mini-THON are filled with games, competitions, food, and of course, dancing. For the first time, seventh grade students were invited to contribute and spend part of the night enjoying the festivities. Laughter and loud music filled the building as students raced through the inflatable obstacle course, flung themselves at the Velcro wall, and got competitive with a variety of tournaments. “My experience was wonderful, I had so much fun and can’t wait to do it again,” freshman Delaney Jess said. “My most memorable moment was donating 10 inches of my hair.” According to Palmieri, the students certainly seemed to have enjoyed themselves. Mini-THON however is about much more than fun and games. For Brooks and countless other families battling cancer, the Four Diamonds Fund helps immensely. “To me, Mini-THON means being able to stand up and fight,” Palmieri said. “Fight for those kids who have had their ‘normal’ childhood taken away.”
