By Emily Heiss Features Editor Many in Red Lion do not know all of the various opportunities that are offered to them by the high school’s Career Center. From internships to career exploration programs, there are more than electives to explore careers while still in high school. YCAL is included in these options. York County Alliance for Learning (YCAL) offers several programs for students interested in a number of different careers.
The careers span numerous paths, from a day at AK Beatz to learning the ins and outs from real-life entrepreneurs. Mrs. Morris says that the programs are for everyone. Students do not have to necessarily have any history in the program that they wish to pursue, it is meant to be an exploration of careers. “I participated in a bunch of the programs such as the financial services program, the hospitality management, and in a few weeks I’ll be participating in the marketing programs,” said senior Cassie Walker. “They all have been mega helpful. I can eliminate which career paths were not as exciting as I had expected and focus on the ones that were.” The YCAL programs are not the only thing that the career center has to offer to students. Many students are also participating in internships through the school. These internships can count as a class for students and can be in various businesses, from education to even music production. Many professionals recommend that students obtain internships in order to obtain real-life work experience as well as to make networking easier, and Red Lion has been working to help make that more possible.
