The Lions started the season off right with a 35-12 win over J.P. McCaskey in the first regular season game of the year on Friday night.
Quarterback Zach Mentzer completed nine of his 15 passes for a total of 147 yards. Mentzer completed a three-yard swing pass to Elijah Workinger and a 22-yard throw to Randy Fizer for two touchdowns on the night.
With the Lions up 21-0 late in the first half it seemed liked J.P. McCaskey had finally arrived in the game with a good 53-yard drive down the field. However with under two minutes before half Jason Nazarenus intercepted a pass from the McCaskey quarterback and ran 94 yards the other way for a pick-six and the 28-0 lead.
Senior running back Tyler Ness ran 12 times for a total of 89 yards and two touchdowns in the first half. Ness also caught two passes for 57 receiving yards.
