By Gabriella Young Staff Writer Finishing 7-4 in league play and fourth place overall in York-Adams Division 1 last year, Red Lion’s girls lacrosse team is preparing to lead the rankings this year. With six returning seniors, they intend to go out with a bang. Senior and University of Cincinnati commit Alyssa Adams has big plans for the team this year. “With the work ethic we have, I definitely can see us winning the County Championship,” Adams said. Head Coach Samantha Grey also has her eyes set on victory.
“My expectations for our season are to win a County Championship and make it farther in districts than last year,” Coach Phipps said. “I have a lot of returning players from last year that will be able to lead us to the championship as well as some standout freshman.” Adams predicted that freshman, including Kaiya Edwards and Emily Herbert have been eye catchers that will have a great impact on the team this year. Coach Grey referenced midfielders Alyssa Adams, Emily Harrington, and attack Peyton Shima who are expected to help lead the team to victory along with several other returning players. With their first official game of the season right around the corner, the team prepares to name varsity and junior varsity players. Once the teams have been named, the season will be in full swing. The Lion’s ability to be county champions will be put to the test this season, but it is looking promising so far. The team already won against West York on March 28. The team will play the annual rival game against Dallastown on May 2.
