By Brianna Lehr Staff Writer The Red Lion Competition Cheer is making outstanding accomplishments this season. In fact, on Jan 20., The team competed in prelims, which allowed the top five teams to go straight to finals, and the teams that placed sixth through twelfth would go to semi finals. Red Lion competed using their original routine and placed fifth after just one day, which meant they were going straight to finals. On Jan. 21 the team competed at finals and placed second in States, which is the highest level of competition for PIAA. The team will now be proceeding to the last step which is, Nationals.
“In previous years, the highest we’ve placed at states was fourth, so to finally medal and get second place truly was an accomplishment for us,” senior Steph Healy said. “The team has put in a lot of work the past couple months, and were excited to see what nationals will hold.” The Red Lion Competition cheer team was not a sore loser, when it came to becoming running up, in fact they were very proud of the team that placed first. “The team that won was amazing! They’re so nice to us, so I was so happy they won and that we also got medalled with them as runner up. It feels like we did the impossible honestly. Senior cheerleader, Sammi Sprenkle said. The team is proud of their success. They left for the national competition in Florida on Feb. 8 and will compete Feb. 11. “It was a moment I will never forget!” junior Bryce Smith said. “The team was able to bring home a state runner up trophy for our school, which was amazing!”
