By Gary Hunt Staff Writer Red Lion has a new wrestling coach. With last year’s record of 16 - 4, we interviewed Red Lion’s captains and new head coach to get some details on the upcoming year. New wrestling coach Albert Gleichauf said his plans for this upcoming season are to win a lot of matches and build relationships with his wrestlers. He hopes to improve the team’s previous record this year. Gleichauf said his goal for the season is to be champions in both county’s and district “I feel my team is that good.” Gleichauf said Other players agreed that they have good chances this year of getting into team districts with their coach this year.
“We have good chemistry,” senior wrestler Zack Shaffer said of Gleichauf. The coach will wrestle against Shaffer to improve his s skills. “He is good competition and knows his way around the mat.” Zack Shaffer was in county’s and districts last year and he states “with past experience and leadership, the team should be able to be good.” Fellow wrestling team captain Riley Seredych agreed and said “The new coach is cool.” Riley Seredych said the new coach has been putting them into some tough workouts and hard conditioning to get them ready for this upcoming season. “I’m excited for this year and the new coach can bring good things this year.” senior wrestler Corey Shane said. Shane is another captain on the team. He said he wants to step up and be a leader this year by teaching teammates some new moves. Instead of running 6 - 8 laps in the new gym track, the players now run 5 - 7 laps around the school or 20 laps on the inside track or ten laps on the outdoor track. Then they run with someone on their back. The hard work will certainly pay off.
