By Paul Jones Sports Editor Senior middle blocker, Brian Trieble, stands out from the crowd both metaphorically and literally. Standing at 6’6”, he towers above most both on and off the court, but that is only part of who he is. Some might remember him from his electric pregame handshake during the basketball season. He performed some Jedi moves before he played against Central on his senior night. Being a multi-sport athlete is tough. Playing both basketball and volleyball is not something that many athletes do. So where does his love for athletics come from? “I’d guess I say that at some point I was exposed to youth soccer and then tried playing other sports,” Treible said. “Then I found that I really like basketball and football and found a passion for them.”
Having a love for the game is key for any athlete playing a sport, especially since sports like basketball and volleyball have such long seasons. That also makes it extremely important to have a positive attitude throughout the team. “Well, I try my best to be a good teammate and boost morale on my team as much as possible,” Treible said. “If you were to ask any of the guys on the volleyball team they would probably say I’m the loudest person at practice.” His 6’6” frame will benefit the the team tremendously in their preparation and in games. There is, however, much more to Brian than just sports. “Off the court I always try to be a good person,” Treible said. “Like always trying to do what I think is the right thing to do and to figure out what is fair. I’m also a lot less serious off the court and like to joke around and stuff.” The team as a whole is also in a unique position as well. Both district three champions are in the Lions’ division this year. Northeastern is one of the best teams in the entire state, as they won the state and district championship in the AA division. Central won the district championship in the AAA division and there are plenty of other dangerous teams within the division. As the Lions navigate through a tough a difficult schedule, their spirits should be high as their Senior Brian Trieble tries to keep them up.
