By Molly Merson News and Features Editor The technology department received a grant of $5,000 from the Red Lion Area Education Foundation. The head of the department, Mr. Heath Neff, used the donation to purchase new equipment for his tech. ed. classes. As of last year, the technology department had five welders with approximately only three of them fully functioning. “It was difficult to teach 18 students using only three welders,” Mr. Neff said. When given the grant, Mr. Neff hoped to use it to it’s best efficiency for the department. “You have to think about the biggest need you have,” Mr. Neff said. “It made more sense to purchase new ones rather than update the old ones for a higher price.”
These welders will hopefully improve and enhance the welding class experience for students. They arrived by mid-October. The Red Lion Area Education Foundation manages the funds and educational opportunities for the district. It entails scholarships, technology grants, dental plans, and educational projects. The foundation has supported more than forty grants totalling $95,000, according to the Red Lion Area School District website. The foundation made a similar donation last year in hopes of improving the technology department’s equipment. They decided to make a similar donation this year with the same goal. This much-needed grant allowed Mr. Neff to purchase ten new welders for his welding classes.
