Red Lion girls soccer became Division I champions after they defeated Dallastown 4-0 last Thursday evening.
The last time they finished the season atop the league standings was in 2006. The final game of the season against Dallastown was to decide who would be the winner of the division with both teams sitting at 27 points.
Seniors Gabby Young and Lexis Kline both scored two goals in the win. Anna Gatchell, Delaney Bittner, Julia Rowe, and Keirsten Strong all had an assist.
The ladies finished the regular season with an overall record of 12-4 and 11-2 in division play while scoring 52 goals and only giving up 11 all season.
The lady lions took on Gettysburg at Dallastown in the first round of counties at 5:30 P.M. on Tuesday, Oct. 16. They won the game 4-1 with goals from Strong, Kline, Young, and Gatchell.
The ladies played in the semi-finals on Thursday, Oct. 18 against Fairfield at Eastern York High School. The ladies once again game out on top beating the undefeated Fairfield knights by a score of 2-1. Young scored both goals with the second coming five minutes into the first overtime.
The girls will now play in the county final game on Saturday, Oct. 20 against Central York at Northeastern.
No matter the result in the county tournament final the girls will also be in the district tournament. Seeded fifth in the power rankings they’re hoping to see success in districts as well. They match up against Carlisle in the first round next Tuesday at 5:30 on Horn field.
