By Ali Kochik Social Media Editor Following tradition, high school homecomings draw a fairly large crowd. People enjoy things like picking out dresses or suits, going out to eat, and dancing with a date or with friends. So when the possibility of having a second homecoming in the winter popped up, many people responded positively. In an informal survey conducted by The Leonid during lunch, 84 percent of people said they would go; 16 percent said they would not. Despite the predominantly positive feedback, Red Lion High School will not have a winter homecoming, or a “SnoCo”, as it would have been called. According to executive council leader Mr. Danner, the idea for “SnoCo” was short lived due to the lack of space to hold the dance. Having already emailed athletic director, Arnie Fritzius, with a list of dates, he says that the Fitzkee Center is booked and there is no place due to winter sports.
“Athletic schedules are done two years in advance so it’s kinda hard. If they were to have planned two years in advance then we probably could’ve done it, but it’s up to them.” This left some students wondering why it couldn’t be held elsewhere so that it could still happen. People have even suggested other locations such as the commons. “It’s a good reason to look forward to something after homecoming,” freshman Caroline Frey said. “Plus underclassmen can’t go to prom,” Riley Miller, also a freshman, added. Some students disagreed however, and did not think the idea of a second homecoming was a good one. “We the people,” sophomore Dean Haynes said, “believe that two kinds of homecoming dances are way too much.” Regardless of the feedback that students gave, at this time there are no existing plans for a winter dance at Red Lion High School.

I believe a SnoCo is a good idea since we have two major dances a year and only seniors can attend prom unless they bring a guest of another grade. If would spark a lot of people's interest since SnoCo's are usually a little more informal than homecoming. It wouldn't have to be anything elaborate, just a night to dance with friends and it could bring in more money for our school.
