By Brianna Lehr Business Manager Scholarship opprtunites are available to Red Lion students via the web-based program Raise.me. Raise.me was launched in 2014 and according to the Raise.me website, it is “A social enterprise focused on making the path to college clearer and more attainable for students by facilitating earlier and more frequent engagement with colleges.” In simpler terms, it is a chance for students to reach out and explore what scholarship opportunities certain colleges have to offer. Raise.me, is a college scholarship app. that rewards high school students for particular classes, such as, honors classes and extracurricular activities. Students are able to receive ‘micro-scholarships’ to their future college. They range from $25 to $1,000 for each of their academic achievements.
Currently, over 300,000 students and 17,000 high schools are on Raise.me. Also, 2,000 new students are signing up daily. Raise.me is not only making a dent among students world wide but it is also making a dent at Red Lion Senior High School this year. The program was first introduced to students by their guidance counselors, while in the process of picking classes for the 2017-2018 school year. The guidance counselors are still new to the program, and encourage students to keep them updated about their experience. “A really good thing is that students can do it at any time, they don’t have to wait until they are in 11th and 12th grade,” said guidance counseler Lottie Smith. “The other thing is that if you have waited until you’re in 11th and 12th grade you can also go back retroactively and fill in all of your information to sort of build those scholarships.” As of right now, Red Lion has 238 students enrolled in Raise.me and about $4,782,433 total has been offered to Red Lion students. The enrollment process can be done in eight steps. The first step is to go too www.Raise.Me, then click “I’m a Student.” From there a student’s email or phone number must be entered. In addition, students must create a password. The fifth step is to enter personal information, and then select the student’s high school, report card schedule, and graduationyear. The seventh step is to start following colleges and entering achievements. The final step is to watch a student’s micro scholarships pile up.
