Many young teens aspire to one day own their own company, some may dream of a clothing line and others a bakery. But how many actually make that dream happen? The challenges are daunting, the expenses and time needed tend to offput most people.
Some students have put their creative minds to the test and launched their own company.
Bryce Knorr is a senior who created the clothing line, Cyprus. “I came up with Cyprus by getting really involved into graphic design and drawing,” Knorr said, “I wanted to always wear exactly what I wanted to wear so it made sense for me to bring the two elements together.”
Bryce started Cyprus in 2013, and the brand has been growing since. Bryce now has his own site and has even worked with professionals in order to better the brand.
A huge inspiration for Bryce is the music he listens to, “It’s all emotion for me.” Throughout the process, Bryce was faced with people who didn’t believe in his vision for Cyprus.
“A huge challenge for me was people not taking me or my ideas seriously.” But he surrounded himself with friends and family who supported him and was able to keep on the right track.
Many of Bryce’s shirts feature a wolf character or his brand’s name. Shirts and hoodies are available on his site, with a wide range of colors.
Josh Gregory is a freshman who recently started the brand REPPIN LIFE. After many long hours spent designing, printing, and promoting, he was able to launch the brand and began getting sales the next day.
While it seems like a straightforward process, there were challenges involved for the young designer.
“The challenges were definitely advertising and getting the news of the brand out to people,” Gregory said, “I told a bunch of people about it and handed out business cards I created to help spread the word.”
After many requests, he later decided to launch a girl’s clothing line. Many of Josh’s shirts feature pictures he took himself and edited in order to create warped nature scenes. These pictures include sunsets, snow covered fields and streams, all edited to create an appealing design. He started designing using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator, “It (REPPIN LIFE) just popped in my head one day and I started making drawings and incorporating the words.”
