By Alyssa Francis Staff Writer The Red Lion Symphonic Band will travel and perform in Atlanta, Georgia during the week of Apr. 25 - 29. The students will be flying out of BWI early in the morning of the 25 for a two-hour flight. Every two years, the Red Lion Band takes a trip within the United States to perform their music. Getting the chance to perform in front of a live audience in another area is a big deal to the band. In April of 2016, the symphonic band, marching band, and concert band flew to San Antonio, Texas and performed in the Fiesta Flambeau Parade which was live-streamed online. Their instruments were decorated with colored lights as they marched during the night.
The group traveled to Six Flags Amusement Park and other Texas attractions. However, this year, only the symphonic band will be participating in the tour because they are the only jazz ensemble. The students that are a part of the group will be touring Atlanta, visiting the aquarium, as well as performing several jazz songs in a museum. Senior Summer Hinton looks forward to seeing what all the aquarium has. “I’m super excited to travel with some of my favorite people to the end of my senior year!” Many of the students are also thrilled about all the sites to see in Georgia, including sophomore Benjamin Thornsberry. “I’m excited to visit the World of Coca-Cola...” said Benjamin, “I can’t wait to show my friends all my pictures.” Another activity they are taking on is the Medieval Times Dinner Theatre. “I am super excited to go to Atlanta for my senior year trip,” Senior Natalie Barley says, “I’m looking forward to go to the Medieval Times Show and watch an intense joust!” The band students are thrilled that they have been given the chance to travel to new places meanwhile playing music and doing what they love.
