The 2K franchise has been a leader in the sports video game industry for years now.
They have produced games such related to World Wrestling Entertainment, Major League Baseball, and of course everyone’s favorite, the National Basketball Association(NBA). The newest release in the NBA 2K series is NBA 2K18, which is developed by Visual Concepts and published by 2K Sports. NBA 2K18 is yet another drastic step in the industry of sports video games.
The developing team at Visual Concepts has done an excellent job making the game look just as if it is being viewed live on television. The team also made the game so that no two players dribble, shoot, drive or pass the ball in the same way, giving each player his own unique style of play. It also gives players like LeBron James a better chance of getting fouled if he drives to the basketball than if a player like J.J. Reddick did.
One addition to the game is a revised shot meter and an all new feedback system, telling players just how well they shoot the basketballs and how contested the shots are. It’s these minor tweaks and details that make this game so much ahead of all it’s competition. The developers also added new rosters called the ‘All-Time Teams,’ which is every franchise’ best players in history all on one team.
NBA 2K18 also consists of an endless amount of game modes from My GM and MyLeague to My Park, giving gamers enough game options to be hooked all year long. It also brought back a fan favorite, My Team, which can be accessed through online use.
One downside to the game is that to access a lot of the features, you must have the online features of the system, which can be very costly. The online features include playing with friends online, My Park, My Team, and a few aspects of the MyCareer game modes. Another downside is that it took away some of the classic teams it had in NBA 2K17.
The biggest addition to the game is an area called “The Neighborhood” where gamers can train and play mini games to increase the points on their player overall in the game. A downside to “The Neighborhood” is that in order to upgrade your player’s overall score quickly, you must buy the Virtual Currency, which can be very costly.
Ultimately, if basketball is not your thing, NBA 2K18 may not be for you. Either way, NBA 2K18 makes a great video game franchise even better than it was before. On a scale from 1-10, I would give NBA 2K18 a 9.3 out of 10 for it’s improved gameplay, endless amount of game modes and the addition of a shot meter and “The Neighborhood.” NBA 2K18 is being sold now for $59.99 on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows.
